What Will Local HealthWatch Do?

Influencing

Local HealthWatch will present the views and experiences of local service users to local managers and decision makers, they will also feedback to HealthWatch England (at National level), as well as being part of prioritising issues/concerns for discussion on the local Health and Well-being Board and also hold local providers to account.

Signposting

Providing information on how to access Health and Social Care services by promoting choice. Some signposting is currently provided by the Primary Care Trusts as part of their Customer Services which now incorporates PALS (Patients Advice and Liaison Service).

Advising

Focused on provding NHS complaints advocacy. ICAS (Independant Complaints Advisory Service) currently provides support to people in England wishing to complain about their treatment or the care they receive under the NHS. The support offered ranges from helping the client with preparation, through to attendance at resolution meetings and helping people with their Correspondence. From April 2012 the Local Authorities will be responsible for commissioning this support and individual authorities may decide.
